This has only a slight padding, kind of thin. It makes a great layer top of the hammock beds sold here. The side without the design has a fluffier plush so Im not sure which side to have up or down. My cat really likes it and I might need to get another one for my dog. I purchase the largest size, I wish there was a larger size.
